PANAJI: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao has demanded for a scientific study on ISRO report declaring both districts of Goa as landslide affected and their report stating Goa lost 15.2 hectare of land due to Coastal Erosion in 10 years.

“Conduct Scientific Study on ISRO Report declaring both Districts of Goa as Landslide Affected & their Report stating Goa lost 15.2 hectare of land due to Coastal Erosion in 10 years,” said Alemao

He further demanded to declare all Scorched Forests in Government Land as No Development Zone and Stop Conversions of the Scorched Forest Lands and allot Special Fund in Budget to Regrow Forest.

“Constitute High Level Commission under Retd. High Court Judge comprising of Experts from various field to investigate all Fire Incidents as well as Accidents & Disasters in Industrial Estates,” he added

The reports of Fire in every Taluka of the State over the last weekend gives scope to suspect foul play. The anti-environment and real estate mafia are eyeing on prime Goan cultivable lands to convert them into concrete jungles. This needs to be probed thoroughly.

Although the Fire incidents in hill areas are attributed to rising temperatures, the possibility of a systematic game plan to destroy the Forests, Wildlife, Flora and Fauna, Bio-diversity and Identity and Existence of Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary cannot be ruled out.

The huge Fire at an Industrial Unit in Pillerne Industrial Estate was an eye- opener for all of us. The incident of leakage of poisonous Ammonia Gas in one of the Units in Cuncolim Industrial Estate also raised alarm about “Ticking Bombs” in various Industrial Estates in Goa. The Fires, Blasts, Leakages happen in various Industrial Estates in Goa, endangering lives of the people due to gross Illegalities which remain Unnoticed/Sidelined by the Government Authorities.

The questions are also raised on the preparedness of the Fire Service Department, Forest Department and Disaster Management Authority to handle such situations and lack of Co-ordination between various Departments and absence of a Nodal Agency to co-ordinate between various agencies during such Disasters and Incidents.
