VASCO: A Vasco resident has alleged that he was cheated of ₹25.74 lakh after being promised the sale of a residential flat at Dabolim, only to find that no sale deed was executed and the money was never returned.
According to police, the complainant, Piedade Nunes Furtado, a resident of Vaddem, Vasco, stated that he was induced to part with the amount between 05/12/2022 and 14/12/2023 at Vaddem. The accused — Richard Swamy and Rajeshwari Achari, both residents of Chicalim, Vasco — allegedly assured the complainant that they would sell her a used, unfurnished 2 BHK flat at Prabhu’s Signature, Dabolim.
Police said the complainant paid the money on different occasions as advance token amount for the flat, acting on the assurances given by the accused. However, despite receiving the substantial sum, the accused allegedly failed to execute any sale deed in favour of the complainant. They also did not refund the amount, leading the complainant to suspect that he had been deliberately misled.
The complainant has alleged that the two accused acted with common intention and dishonestly induced him to make the payments, and thereafter misappropriated the entire amount, causing him a financial loss of ₹25.74 lakh.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police have registered an offence under sections 316(2), 318(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Mayur Sawant of Vasco police station, under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
