Canacona: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has selected M/s Kaluwala Construction Pvt Ltd, Bhiwani (Haryana), for the four-laning of key sections of National Highway-66 in South Goa, with the project awarded at a cost of ₹594.18 crore.
The project involves construction of 22.1 km of four-lane highway across two stretches—Benordem to the start of the Canacona Bypass (14.69 km) and from the end of the Canacona Bypass to Polem (7.41 km)—providing a vital connectivity link for Canacona and adjoining areas.
According to official details, MoRTH issued the Letter of Award (LoA) on January 20, 2026, to M/s Kaluwala Construction Pvt Ltd for execution of the project on NH-66, covering the Benordem–Canacona Bypass section from km 570.190 to km 584.880 and the Canacona Bypass–Polem section from km 602.890 to km 610.300.
The successful bidder has been given seven days to sign and return the duplicate copy of the LoA as a token of acceptance. MoRTH has also directed the company to form an appropriate Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under the Companies Act, 2013, to execute the concession agreement and implement the project. The concession agreement is to be signed within 45 days from the date of issue of the LoA with the Chief Engineer (NH), Public Works Department, Goa.
As part of the contractual requirements, the concessionaire will have to furnish a performance security in the form of a bank guarantee amounting to ₹29.70 crore, which is five per cent of the bid project cost, along with an additional performance security of ₹35.805 crore within 30 days of signing the agreement.
The four-laning project, considered a major infrastructure boost for South Goa, is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and spur economic activity in the region, particularly benefiting trade, tourism and local businesses.
Canacona MLA and Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Arts & Culture and Tribal Welfare, Ramesh Tawadkar, said the works are expected to commence soon after completion of the statutory and contractual formalities. “This project will not only boost the economy of Canacona but will also make a significant contribution to the health, tourism and education sectors of the constituency,” he said.
Once completed, the upgraded NH-66 stretch is expected to strengthen road connectivity between Canacona and other parts of Goa, while improving access to border areas near Polem.
