MAPUSA: On a brisk morning in Mapusa, the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) embarked on a strategic enforcement drive aimed at curtailing illegal waste dumping in the city’s notorious black spots.
The operation, which took place from 6:30 am to 10:00 am on April 2, 2025, was a collaborative effort involving key officials and the local police to ensure public spaces remain clean and safe. The drive resulted in the booking of 11 individuals under Section 3A 5(b) of the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1996, for illegally disposing of garbage.
The main objective of this early morning initiative was to heighten awareness about proper waste disposal and discourage residents from dumping trash in public areas. Participants in the drive included senior officials from the GWMC, Goa State Pollution Control Board, Mapusa Municipality, and local law enforcement. Notably, officials such as Shri Dhiraj Chodankar, Shri Siddhant Desai, and Engineer Shri Rajadatta Mapari, along with the Chairperson of Mapusa Municipality, played crucial roles in the operation.
