MARGAO: Ravindra Bhavan in Margao is set to undergo major renovations in preparation for its role as a key venue for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The facility will see the installation of new screens, projectors, and other infrastructural upgrades aimed at enhancing its cinematic capabilities.
The main auditorium will remain closed during July and August to facilitate the work, which is being carried out in consultation with tiatrists and artists, according to Rajendra Talak, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan.
“The upgradation will help establish Ravindra Bhavan as a significant cultural hub, especially during IFFI. The input of local artists is central to ensuring the space meets diverse artistic needs,” Talak said.
However, the decision has sparked criticism from sections of the local art community. Artist and former Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Governing Body member Vishal Pai Cacode voiced his concerns about the scale and intent of the renovations.
“Once upon a time, Kala Academy was renovated for IFFI, which transformed it into a Monument of Corruption. God save Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. It looks like Ravindra Bhavan is spending more on renovation and repairs than on its core mission of promoting art and culture,” Cacode said.
