PANAJI: In a targeted crackdown against drug trafficking, the North District Police, along with the Crime Branch, carried out three coordinated raids within 24 hours, resulting in the arrest of five suspects from Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh and the seizure of narcotics valued at more than ₹16 lakh.
The largest seizure occurred near the Goa State Central Library in Panaji, where police detained three men—Sajeer (33), Moidin Ashmin (22), and Mohammad Suhel (21), all residents of Udupi, Karnataka. Based on specific intelligence, authorities confiscated 91.934 grams of MDMA, a car, and seven mobile phones. The total haul in this operation was estimated at ₹12 lakh.
In another incident, Anjuna Police arrested Santosh Lamani (24) from Karnataka near Assagao Church. He was found in possession of 9.49 grams of MDMA and 4.46 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of ₹2.10 lakh.
A third raid near the Peddem football ground led to the arrest of Anil Kumar (26) from Himachal Pradesh. He was caught with 182 grams of charas and ₹43,000 in cash. The items recovered were valued at ₹1.82 lakh.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta confirmed that all three operations adhered strictly to Supreme Court guidelines. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to combating the drug menace and maintaining law and order in the state.
