PANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has flagged 17 aging and structurally unsafe buildings within city limits and has sought the expertise of the Goa College of Engineering (GEC) for structural assessment of each.
“We have issued reminders to GEC for all the identified structures, requesting technical guidance to determine the appropriate course of action,” a CCP official stated.
In the case of the municipal building located in the Panaji market area, GEC has already submitted its structural analysis report, recommending demolition. Acting on the recommendation, CCP has sealed the building and barricaded the surrounding area. Eviction notices have also been served to approximately 29 occupants.
The official further noted that notices under Section 272 of the City of Panaji Corporation Act, 2002—pertaining to the removal of buildings deemed dangerous—have been issued for all 17 identified properties.
