Panaji: The Goa government has received 119 complaints of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour against police personnel between January 1, 2020, and August 2025, including allegations of harassment, rude treatment, extortion, and mishandling of cases — particularly in disputes between tourists and locals. Of these, 51 have been disposed of, while 68 remain under inquiry, Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said.
Sawant said the Director General of Police (DGP) and supervisory officers conduct regular briefings and behavioural training to promote citizen-friendly policing.
In the past year, 5,566 grievances have been addressed through Sampark Sabhas (366), Public Grievance Drives (91), and helplines (5,109).
The CM noted that in response to court observations on lapses in investigations — including the Mapusa forgery case — directions have been issued to all units to ensure strict adherence to legal protocols, accountability, and timely action.
A Standing Committee, set up in November 2020 under the DIG (C&R), reviews monthly acquittal cases to determine reasons and fix responsibility.
Goa Police also conducts regular sensitisation programmes on gender issues, community outreach, child rights, and complaint handling to strengthen public trust.
