Chandor: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the quiet village of Chandor, a local resident was allegedly assaulted and robbed by a group of unidentified men in the early hours of Sunday.
According to a complaint lodged with the Maina-Curtorim Police Station, the victim, Nicolav D’Costa, was attacked around 1:30 a.m. on July 20, just outside his residence.
As per the complaint, two to three unidentified assailants, believed to be in their late twenties to mid-thirties, restrained D’Costa and physically assaulted him using fists and kicks, causing multiple injuries.
The attackers allegedly robbed D’Costa of four gold chains, five gold finger rings, a gold bracelet, ₹30,000 in cash, and a “Vivo” mobile phone worth ₹1 lakh — with the total value of stolen items estimated at around ₹12 lakh.
Speaking on the case, an officer from Maina-Curtorim Police confirmed that a formal complaint has been registered, and the investigation is currently being led by LPSI Sonal Gaunkar. Police teams are working to identify and trace the culprits, and are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas for clues.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in the area, with locals urging authorities to increase night patrols and ensure better lighting in residential zones.
