Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state government is committed to restarting mining operations in a systematic and transparent manner. Speaking in the Assembly, he revealed that 12 mineral blocks have been auctioned so far, out of which three blocks have already commenced operations, while four more are expected to start within the next two months.
Sawant attributed delays in operationalisation to the multiple permissions required from different agencies, but assured the House that from October onwards, mining activities will resume smoothly across the state.
He further informed that four additional mineral blocks will be put up for auction in the next 15 days, signalling the government’s intention to accelerate the process.
Reiterating the government’s stance, Sawant said, “We are serious about the resumption of mining activities and also committed to the recovery from defaulting mining firms. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure transparency and accountability in the sector.”
The statement comes as a major reassurance to mining-dependent communities and stakeholders, who have long awaited the revival of Goa’s once-thriving mining industry.
