Panaji: In a significant development, the Directorate of Panchayats has placed Orville C. Vales, Secretary of the Sancoale Village Panchayat, under suspension following a recommendation from the Directorate of Vigilance and an inquiry conducted by the Anti-Corruption Branch, Panaji.
The suspension, issued under Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeals) Rules, 1965, comes in the wake of serious allegations against Vales involving high-handedness and suspected corruption.
As per the order, disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against him.
GFP MLA Vijai Sardesai, who had raised the issue on the floor of the Goa Legislative Assembly, thanked Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for acting on the matter.
Sardesai had alleged that Vales was engaging in corrupt practices and demanded strict action.
During the period of suspension, Vales has been directed to report to the Block Development Officer in Mormugao and is not permitted to leave headquarters without prior permission. He will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per rules.
