CHANDOR: CAC Sports & Social Club, Cansaulim, kicked off the 50th All Goa Chandor Seamen Rolling Trophy Inter-Village Football Tournament in style, defeating Benfica Youth Club 4–1 in the inaugural match at the Chandor Church Complex ground. The prestigious golden jubilee edition is organised by Chandor Club.
Braving steady showers, over 1,500 football fans turned up to witness the two neighbouring teams in action, with the colourful opening ceremony adding to the festive atmosphere.
Benfica Youth Club drew first blood in the 34th minute through Johnson Horta. However, CAC struck back with a stunning three-goal burst before halftime—Arron Fernandes (39’), Rishley Soares (40’), and Jesus D’Sa (42’) turning the game firmly in their favour.
In the second half, Royann Gama (53’) put the result beyond doubt, sealing a commanding 4–1 victory. Arron Fernandes’ fine performance earned him the Hero of the Match award. Benfica Youth Club were also presented with a memento to mark their participation in the golden jubilee edition.
The inauguration was graced by former India international and national coach Savio Medeira as Chief Guest, alongside Parish Priest Fr. Jean Da Cruz Fernandes and Sr. Zinnia Coreia as Guests of Honour. Special guests included Fr. Afzal Fernandes, Piety Fernandes, Guirdolim Sarpanch Sonia Dias, GFA Executive Member Patwin Fizardo, Maria Menezes, Nancy Antao, Hipolito Dias, Estefanio Dias, and Derrick Braganza Pereira.
