CUNCOLIM: A major fire broke out at the Parshuram Metaux factory located in Cuncolim Industrial Estate, gutting large quantities of goods and raw material.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident.
According to fire officials, while the blaze destroyed stock stored inside, the main factory structure remained intact. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and the extent of losses has not been estimated so far.
Reacting to the incident, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao stressed the urgent need for stringent safety protocols in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
“This incident highlights the urgent need for stringent safety measures in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. I have consistently emphasized the importance of ensuring worker safety and taking action against factories that compromise on basic amenities, such as those providing dormitories within premises, which is illegal and without proper safeguards. Such lapses can lead to disastrous consequences at any time,” he said.
Alemao further urged the government to prioritize the welfare of factory workers and the surrounding community by ensuring robust enforcement of safety regulations.
