PANAJI: The Goa Traffic Police has booked a total of 1236 violations of drunken driving/riding and 326 violations of underage driving/riding were booked in the year 2022 till date.
Goa Traffic Police had undertaken Special drives to curtail the menace of Drunken driving/riding and underage driving/riding in the state of Goa, in order to prevent Motor Vehicle accidents and fatalities on Goan roads.
In total 1236 violations of drunken driving/riding and 326 violations of underage driving/riding were booked in the year 2022 till date.
The punishment for drunken driving for the first offence is imprisonment for a term which may extend uptto a period of six months or with fine of Rs.10,000/- or with both and for second or subsequent offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with a fine of Rs. 15,000/- or with both.
Further, the driving licence of the violator is suspended for a period of three months. For underage driving, a fine of amount of Rs. 5000/- is imposed upon the driver/rider and additional fine of Rs.5000/- is imposed on the owner for allowing unauthorized person to drive/ride his/her vehicle.
Further, a report is sent to the concerned Asst. Director of Transport for cancellation of the registration of the motor vehicle used by the minor in commission of the offence and the said minor will not be eligible to obtain Learner’s Licence or Driving Licence until he/she attains age of twenty five years.
