Panaji: A total of 131 cyber crime and online fraud cases were registered in Goa in 2025, marking a sharp rise compared to previous years, Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant informed the State Assembly.
Replying to a starred question tabled by MLA Govind Gaude, the government stated that 82 cases were registered in 2023, 85 cases in 2024, and 131 cases in 2025, indicating a steady increase in cyber-related offences in the state.
The government also provided details regarding the total amount of money involved in such frauds and the recovery made so far, which were placed in an annexure tabled in the Assembly.
To tackle the growing menace of cyber crimes, the Goa Police has taken several measures to strengthen investigation and recovery mechanisms.
According to the reply, police personnel are regularly trained at the Central Detective Training Institute under the Bureau of Police Research and Development as well as through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Cyber Crime Police Station at Ribandar and cyber response cells in police stations across the state have also been equipped with advanced investigation tools and digital portals such as Cyber Police, Sammanvay, Pratibimb and Sahayog.
Authorities further informed that 442 web links, 168 social media accounts and 866 mobile numbers connected with cyber fraud activities have been blocked so far.
Police are also conducting regular awareness programmes in schools, colleges, public places and panchayat halls to educate citizens about common cyber fraud methods and preventive measures.
In addition, victims of cyber fraud are being assisted by investigating officers to obtain court orders for reversal of fraud amounts, while the Union government is introducing a Money Restoration Module under the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal to help victims recover their money faster.
