CANACONA – The 150th anniversary of India’s National Song “Vande Mataram” was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Ravindra Bhavan, Canacona. Minister for Art and Culture, Tribal Welfare, Sports and Youth Affairs Ramesh Tawadkar said the song has “awakened the nation” and continues to inspire unity and national pride among Indians.
Speaking at the event, Tawadkar said “Vande Mataram” became a powerful symbol of inspiration during the freedom struggle and ignited the flame of nationalism in every Indian heart. “Patriotic and self-respecting citizens played a crucial role in India’s freedom struggle through their sacrifices and determination. The song embodied the very soul of India — that is why the British feared it,” he said.
Highlighting its relevance today, the Minister urged citizens to adopt a positive outlook and a strong sense of national commitment. “Differences of opinion may exist, but our ultimate goal should always be the progress of the country. When nation-oriented individuals come together, India can achieve new heights of unity and development,” he added.
The program began with a soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram,” filling the auditorium with patriotic spirit. It was attended by Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, Deputy Collector Pratap Naik Gaonkar, Mamlatdar Gajesh Shirodkar, and councillors Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, Simon Rebello, and Nitu Desai, along with students, teachers, government officials, and BJP workers from across the taluka.
The event was anchored by Shirish Pai, and Deputy Collector Pratap Naik Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks.
