PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that a total 3299 persons are employed at Manohar International Airport, out of which 1727 are Goans.
“Total 3299 persons are employed at Manohar International Airport. Number of Goans are : 1,727; Number of persons displaced due to acquisition of land for construction of Manohar International Airport is 15. Out of these 15 nos of families 14 families have been rehabilitated by giving them alternate land at survey no. 207 in Casarvarnem village,” said Sawant.
He further said that the Government of Goa has sanctioned rehabilitation package to 14 project affected families by granting 800 sq mtrs of land to each of the 14 Project Affected Families in which 100 sq mtrs for house and 50 sq mtrs for goat/cow shed.
“There were 15 project affected families. Out of which 01 family accepted compensation and 14 project affected families were rehabilitated. Employment to one person from each 15 Project Affected Families is given by GMR Goa International Airport Limited. The list of persons employed who were given appointment letters by the Concessionaire,” he added.
International Flight Operations commenced from Manohar International Airport today with Air India flight AI 145 leaving for Gatwick Airport, London at 12.55 noon. The Mopa –Gatwick service will be operational thrice a week. IndiGo has also announced new connections between Mopa and Abu Dhabi, from September 2.
The Manohar International Airport (MIA) at Mopa in north Goa (IATA: GOX) started commercial operations on January 5, 2023.
The project had seen its fair share of issues, with court cases and then pandemic delaying construction. When it was finally ready, IndiGo became the lead player by launching flights to the new airport in an unprecedented manner.
