Panaji: Goa Police has registered 18 FIRs in recruitment-related fraud cases since January 2024, arresting ten accused and filing charge sheets in eight cases, underlining intensified action against fraudulent recruitment networks.
In January 2026, the Crime Branch, Goa Police, conducted a statewide detailed enquiry into recruitment agencies operating in Goa, with a special focus on overseas employment to Southeast Asian countries during the period from January 1, 2024 till date.
The enquiry was carried out through Beat Officers of all concerned subdivisions, involving field verification of office locations, interaction with local sources, and scrutiny of recruitment activities.
Police found that registered and known recruitment agencies currently operating in Goa are not engaged in recruiting candidates for Southeast Asian countries. Their operational details and recruitment profiles were verified and officially recorded. The enquiry into Southeast Asian recruitment was undertaken as a preventive measure to curb exploitation and instances of so-called “cyber slavery” of Goans abroad.
Simultaneously, verification was conducted into suspected illegal recruitment agencies and individuals. In most cases, addresses were found to be incorrect or non-existent, offices were closed, or no recruitment activity was found at the stated locations. Several contact numbers were switched off, unreachable, or unrelated to recruitment, while some individuals clarified they were not involved in overseas recruitment.
No active illegal recruitment operations were detected during the enquiry. However, considering the sensitivity of overseas employment and risks of exploitation, Beat staff have been directed to maintain continuous vigilance and intelligence gathering.
Goa Police reiterated its commitment to strict legal action against anyone involved in recruitment fraud and urged citizens to verify recruiters through authorised government platforms before seeking overseas employment.
