MAPUSA: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out surprise inspections on mango wholesalers in North Goa, leading to the seizure of suspicious stock from two units at the Mapusa Sub Yard.
The inspection drive was conducted by a team led by Richard Noronha, Designated Officer (North Goa), along with Senior Food Safety Officer Rajaram Patil and Food Safety Officers Lenin De Sa, Amit Mandrekar, and Safia Khan, under the guidance of Director Shweta Desai.
A total of 15 units were inspected—7 in Siolim dealing in local mango varieties and 8 at the Mapusa Sub Yard selling produce sourced from other states. Officials collected 24 samples of various mango varieties and 4 samples of other fruits during the operation.
Two units at Mapusa were found with suspicious material, resulting in immediate seizure of their stock. The samples have been sent for chemical residue analysis to ensure compliance with food safety norms.
Further action will be taken based on the lab test results.
