PORVORIM: The Assembly was informed by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho that 18,319 taxis in Goa had taxi meters installed.
According to him, there are no extra collection costs for the government because the sellers collect the fees for these meters directly from customers at the time of purchase. The minister was speaking in response to a query from MLA Delilah Lobo.
According to the Minister, the overall cost of renewing a taxi meter is Rs 4,654, which includes 18% GST. This comprises Rs 1,239 for data expenses, Rs 1,694 for yearly maintenance, and Rs 1,200 for department fees. The cab owner pays the seller directly for the amount. The vendor deposits the department charges into the government treasury from this total.
Godinho also answered questions on GPS tracking surveillance and emergency panic buttons in cabs. He affirmed that the Imagine Panaji Smart City Ltd. (IPSCDL) Command Control Center, situated in Altinho, Panaji, has a control room put up by the government for this exact purpose.
To guarantee efficiency and safety in taxi operations, the centre manages the GPS tracking and emergency response systems.
