PERNEM: A 19-year-old youth from Ozarim in Pernem was found dead near a cashew tree in the early hours of Sunday, police said. The incident came to light around 1:37 am on March 23 when Rahul Parab, a resident of Madkai Wada, Ozarim, approached the police with information about his brother, Ruthwik Parab (19).
Police used mobile phone location details and rushed to the spot, where they discovered the युवक lying near a cashew tree with ligature material present. Rahul Parab, who was nearby, was called to the location and identified the deceased as his brother. The body was then carefully brought down and shifted in a police vehicle to PHC Casarvarnem, where the medical officer on duty declared him brought dead.
Mopa Airport Police registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police conducted an inquest panchanama, following which the body was sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at GMC Bambolim for post-mortem examination.
As per the autopsy report, the cause of death was certified as “asphyxia as a result of constriction of neck,” with injuries noted to be ante-mortem and fresh in nature. After completion of medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for final rites.
