PANAJI: The first meeting on the Goa Public Universities Bill 2025 was held recently under the chairmanship of Subhash Shirodkar. The session saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Alexio Sequeira, Vijai Sardesai, Aleixo Reginald, Shri Daji Salkar, Chandrakant Shetye, Carlos Ferreira, Shri Cruz D’Souza, Secretary of Education Prasad Lolyekar, Director of Education Bhushan Sawaikar, and Joint Secretary of the Law Department Dyaneshwar Raut Desai.
The committee deliberated on the potential advantages and challenges of establishing a cluster university in Goa and assessed its likely impact on existing colleges in the State. The discussions focused on ensuring that the proposed legislation prioritizes the interests of students and educational institutions.
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane, who attended the meeting, stated, “It is essential that the bill reflects inclusive dialogue and takes into account the perspectives of all stakeholders. Only through constructive consultation can we ensure that Goa’s higher education system evolves in a way that benefits both students and colleges.”
The next meeting will see the inclusion of respective college chairpersons, who will be invited to present their concerns and recommendations regarding the proposed bill.
