MARGAO: The Margao Additional Sessions Court has acquitted all five accused in the 2019 Motidongor murder case of 24-year-old Anwar Shaikh.
Those acquitted are Nagraj Naikar, Jagesh Metti, Sadashiv Metti, Basuraj Kaddi and Manjunath Metti, who were charged with murdering Shaikh at Motidongor, Margao, on December 27, 2019.
While pronouncing the acquittal, the trial court observed that the prosecution failed to firmly establish the identity of the assailants, noting that no Test Identification Parade (TIP) was conducted. The court also held that the prosecution failed to link the seized weapons and clothes to the commission of the crime.
The court further noted that the chain of evidence was incomplete, with the case resting largely on weak and partly hostile testimony. Significantly, even the two purported eyewitnesses failed to identify the accused in court.
