PANAJI: The Goa Forward Party supremo Vijai Sardesai took on social media to announce formation of Team Goa, as party forges alliance with Congress.
Sardesai released picture of him holding hands with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Digambar Kamat along with Vinod Palyekar and Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar.
Interestingly, Gaonkar had recently expressed his support to TMC in Goa. Also, GFP MLA Jayesh Salgaoncar was missing.
“Continuance of Goa under BJP Goa rule is an impossibility! Met with RahulGandhi. Proud to be working for the 2nd liberation of Goa with the great grandson of the person who enabled the 1st! The curse of the communal and anti-Goan Dr Pramod Sawant govt will be blown away,” said Vijai Sardesai
Rahul Gandhi said that he is happy to have the support of GFP and Gaonkar.
“I had a fruitful discussion with Shri Vijay Sardesai & Shri Vinod Palyekar – MLAs of Goa Forward Party and Independent MLA Sri Prasad Gaonkar. They extended their full support to the Congress to bring a positive change in Goa. I’m happy to have their support,” said Gandhi after the meeting.
In 2017, Sardesai’s attempts to stitch an alliance with the Congress had failed as the GFP leader accused the then state Congress leadership of apathy. This resulted in the formation of the BJP government even though the Hindutva party had managed to win only 13 out of the 40 seats in the assembly.
