PANAJI: While there have been swings over the past five years, Goa’s rice output has increased overall. According to information given by the Minister of Agriculture, Ravi Naik, Goa produced 94,611 metric tonnes (MT) of rice in the fiscal year 2023–2024. 26913 MT from the Rabi season and 67,698 MT from the Kharif season are included in this.
Goa’s principal crops, besides rice, are groundnuts, cashew nuts, sugarcane, coconut, areca nut, mango, and banana.
For the fiscal year 2023–24, Goa required a total of 49,087.314 MT of rice. The Food Corporation of India, which distributes rice through the Department of Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs, is the main conduit through which the Government of India provides supply to meet this need.
In terms of rice milling, Goa is home to three large rice mills. In spite of this, it is acknowledged that more milling capacity is required to enhance regional rice processing and production.
Because rice is not a notified commodity for this kind of data collection, export details for Goan rice were not accessible.
