PILAR:A music event at Fr Agnel School Ground in Pilar descended into violence on Saturday afternoon, leading to a major law-and-order incident and injuries to police personnel.
The Agacaim Police have registered a case against more than 20 individuals for rioting, assault, stone-pelting, and damaging property.
According to the complaint filed by LPSI Deepika Parwar at 10:37 pm on December 7, the incident began around 3 pm when an event organised by Suraj Arjun Lohra (25) of Saligao allegedly saw a fight break out between the organisers and members of the public. Police said the confrontation disturbed public peace and amounted to an affray.
As the situation escalated, ten named accused — identified as Raju Gopal Sahu, Ravi Putulu Oraoa, Suraj Nath Chawan, Arwind Vinay Kullu, Pradip Kiran Singh, Rajesh Lawro Singh, Sitender Shubhat Oraoa, Gangadhar Narayan Das, Aryan Rajendra Singh, along with Lohra — and around ten other unidentified persons allegedly began shouting, fighting, damaging the stage and sound equipment, and assaulting the sound system owner.
Police further stated that when personnel attempted to intervene, the accused group turned aggressive, refused to obey lawful directions, and began pelting stones, causing injuries to officers on duty. The sound system and stage setup were also damaged during the altercation.
A case has been registered at Agacaim Police Station under Sections 194(1), 195(1), 132, 118(2), 324(5) read with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. PSI Shubham Korgaonkar is conducting further investigation.
