CANACONA: A 22-year-old Nepali national drowned while swimming at Agonda beach on Monday late afternoon.
According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Santosh Bista (22), a native of Nepal, who was working at a resort located along Agonda beach. He reportedly entered the sea in front of the resort for a swim late in the afternoon when he was suddenly swept into deeper waters due to strong undercurrents.
On noticing Bista struggling in the sea, onlookers and his colleagues raised an alarm. Life-savers rushed to the spot and rescued him from the water in an unconscious condition. He was immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Chaudi, for medical treatment. However, the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
During the panchanama at the scene of the unnatural death, Canacona Police Inspector Praveen Gawas and SDPO Canacona Nilesh Rane visited the spot and guided the investigating team led by PSI Ramdas B. Doifode. The inquest panchanama was conducted in the presence of two panch witnesses.
The body has been shifted to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, and preserved for further medico-legal formalities. A case of Unnatural Death has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023.
