PANAJI: State Road safety council which met today has unanimously recommended implementation of New motor vehicle act as soon as possible for the purpose of safety of citizens, informed Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho.
“We should follow the law in letter and spirit as is the case with rest of the country. We will keep the fines minimum,” he assured. He said that leverage has been given to the state to adjust fines within Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 range. The decision regarding date of implementation will be taken by CM Sawant, Mauvin said.
He further informed that 24 accident prone dark spots were identified in the state of which 14 have already been dissolved due to widening of roads, National Highway, augmentation of roads etc.
The council has been asked to submit the timeline for rectification of the remaining 10 black spots, he added. City/ward and Village level road committees will be activated to educate people on traffic rules informed GOACAN director Roland Martins who is member of State Road safety council.
