CANACONA: A total of 242 people benefitted from a one-day Free Eye Check-up Camp organised by the Lions Club of Canacona (LCC) at Agonda on Friday.
The camp, held at the Agonda Sports Club Hall, offered free screening for men and women. Spectacles worth over ₹3,000 were made available to beneficiaries at a nominal charge of just ₹160. While most participants were advised spectacles, a few were also diagnosed with eye disorders requiring further treatment.
The initiative was organised by LCC in coordination with social worker and businessman Suraj Naik Gaunkar, in association with the team of ophthalmic doctors from Matoshree Arogya Seva Trust (MAST), Mumbai.
The camp was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Agonda VP Dy. Sarpanch Karuna Phaldesai, in the presence of Agonda Ex-Sarpanch and present Panch Fatima Rodrigues, Agonda Sports Club President Raju Faldessai, and others.
Speaking on the occasion, social worker Suraj Naik Gaunkar stressed the importance of regular eye check-ups. LCC President Pankaj Naik Gaunkar welcomed the gathering and highlighted Lions Club activities. Secretary Ulhas Phaldesai proposed the vote of thanks, while Treasurer Dilkush Shet and other Lion members were present. The function was compered by Nitin Desai.
