MARGAO: The District and Sessions Judge of South Goa found 25-year-old Abhishek Hiremath of Kakumoddi in Quepem guilty of trying to kill his former instructor, 62-year-old Laxmikant Shikerker of Assolda, by dousing him in gasoline.
Hiremath was taken into custody by the Quepem Police after he allegedly attempted to kill Shikerker by dousing him in gasoline and trying to light him with a lighter.
After Shikerker filed a complaint, the inquiry was started. He said in his complaint that on November 8, 2021, Hiremath broke into his house and took ₹6,990 in cash out of his wife’s purse.
He added that Hiremath tried to burn him alive by dousing him in gasoline while he was asleep.
But Shikerker was able to stop the assault and capture Hiremath.
The items used in the attempted crime were later confiscated by the police. Hiremath admitted to the assault, telling the authorities that he wanted to exact revenge on Shikerker for assaulting him during his time in Class X. According to the authorities, this confession suggests a revenge-based motivation.
Police characterized Hiremath as an exceptional student in spite of the incident. The state was represented in the case by Public Prosecutor V G Costa, who also questioned witnesses, including PSI Mayur Sawant, the investigative officer.
The trial has begun after PSI Sawant filed the charges in court. On December 17, Hiremath is expected to be sentenced.
