CANACONA: A 26-year-old resident of Rajbhag–Tarir lost his life in a self-accident involving a Thar jeep at Chapoli in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased, Ravish Rajendra Komarpant, died on the spot after the Karnataka-registered Thar (KA04 NG0111) he was reportedly driving rammed into a roadside granite boulder near the Chapoli dam area.
The accident occurred around 3:30 am, when the vehicle, carrying three occupants, was heading towards Chapoli village. The impact was severe enough to overturn the jeep, which then collided with another rock a few metres ahead. One of the front wheels had snapped off due to the force of the crash.
The two other occupants — identified as Rakshit Rao and Divya Thakur, both from Bengaluru — sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
According to sources, the jeep veered off the road, narrowly missing a steep gorge before hitting the boulder and flipping over.
Police have registered the incident and are conducting further enquiries to determine the circumstances that led to the accident.
