Dabolim: A 29-year-old man from South Goa was booked by police on Tuesday for allegedly entering Goa International Airport with forged flight tickets. The accused, identified as Manuel Kavin D’Souza from Sancoale village, used fake tickets from Air India and Qatar Airways to gain access to the airport between 2:15 pm and 3:00 pm.
According to a senior police officer, D’Souza passed the initial security check conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) using the counterfeit tickets. However, the fraud was detected when he presented the same tickets at the airline counter inside the terminal.
D’Souza was carrying the following forged tickets:
Goa-Mumbai Air India ticket
Mumbai-Doha Qatar Airways ticket
Doha-Barcelona Qatar Airways ticket
The Dabolim Airport Police have registered a case against D’Souza under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to cheating and forgery. During initial interrogation, D’Souza revealed that he had received the fake tickets from an “agency,” sparking concerns about a possible larger racket.
Authorities are now investigating:
The source of the forged tickets
Whether the agency operates locally or online
If there have been similar incidents involving fake documentation at the airport
The incident highlights potential vulnerabilities in the airport’s verification process, raising concerns about security at Indian airports. Investigations are ongoing.
