COLVALE: Colvale police have registered an unnatural death case (UD No. 23/2025) after a 29-year-old daily wage labourer was found hanging in his rented room at Colvale on September 1, 2025.
Police said the deceased, identified as Gopal Singh, originally from Uttar Pradesh and residing near Ambedkar Higher Secondary School, Colvale, was working with a contractor in the area. He was living with his younger brother Sonu Singh and nephew Lavkush Singh.
On returning home late in the evening, Sonu and Lavkush reportedly found the room locked from inside. After forcing the door open, they discovered Gopal hanging from a ceiling fan. He was immediately rushed to the District Hospital, Mapusa, where he was declared brought dead.
The body was later shifted to GMC, Bambolim, where a post-mortem conducted by Dr. Parvathy R certified the cause of death as asphyxia due to hanging (Autopsy No. 768/2025). The inquest and scene panchanamas were carried out in the presence of witnesses, with relatives stating there was no foul play suspected.
The body was handed over to the family for last rites. Police have registered the case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 and further enquiries are in progress.
