CANACONA: A police complaint has been filed against the owner and manager of The Rose Beach Resort in Agonda after a tragic incident in which a 3-year-old girl from South Delhi drowned in the resort’s swimming pool last week.
According to Canacona police, the FIR was registered following a complaint lodged by Imdad Afroz Saizy, a resident of New Delhi. The FIR accuses the resort management of negligence, citing the swimming pool was left unfenced, lacked warning signs or notices, and had no lifeguard or watchman deployed to monitor the area.
The incident occurred on May 4, 2025, at around 1:30 PM, when the victim’s family was having lunch at the resort’s restaurant. The child, reportedly attracted by the water, wandered into the pool area unnoticed and subsequently drowned. She was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) but was declared brought dead on arrival.
Canacona police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the resort’s owner/manager for criminal negligence. The section pertains to acts endangering life or personal safety due to negligence.
The investigation is currently being handled by PSI Shivram Gawas of the Canacona Police Station
