Panaji: After the anti-coal fiasco at Arossim last night, the State administration did not to take any further risk during President Ram Nath Kovind as the Goa Police detained 30-odd youth activists, who had converged near Panaji church for a peaceful demonstration.
The youth were taken by bus to Agassaim, Ponda, Porvorim and Mapusa Police Stations.
Sources revealed that the youth will be released after the President’s function at Bandodkar ground at 6 p,m.
The Save Mollem Group said that multiple groups were arrested. One was a students group which had gone to express their gratitude on Goa Liberation Day at Panjim church.
“The Goa Police have taken them out of their jurisdiction and have not told them where they are taking them. They should have been taken to the nearest police station but the vans are driving them somewhere else. They have also not been told under what section of the IPC they are being detained under. This accounts to unlawful detention and can be seen as kidnapping,” said the activists.
