PANAJI: The coast of Goa witnessed many rescues and emergencies over the recent weekend, which were catered to by Drishti Lifesavers. A total of 30 rescues were conducted while six children were reunited with their families. Baga and Calangute saw the highest number of incidents over the weekend.
In an incident at Zalor, two lifesavers manning the point noticed a man riding on a bicycle by the beach and were alerted by the lifesavers to not go too close to the waters. Later he rushed into the water on foot, for which he was alerted by the lifesavers to fall back to shore. Unfortunately, he was pulled into the rough tides and went missing. Police were quickly informed, and a search operation was launched. The body washed the next day ashore at Varca.
A Maharashtrian family was reunited with their young lad on Baga beach. The distressed father reported his 4-year-old missing son at the tower, who was found soon after the lifesavers made an announcement from their Jeep.
In another similar event, a child was handed over to his parents at Calangute after he was found wandering alone at the main entrance. The 5-year-old boy from Belgaum was successfully reunited with his parents. Similarly, at Calangute, a four-year-old missing girl from Belgaum was found by Drishti, lifesaver Sunil.
Baga witnessed a single rescue wherein a 26-year-old male from Hyderabad was rescued by a team of Drishti lifesavers using a rescue tube.
Similarly, in Calangute, another single rescue of a 20-year-old male from Karnataka was carried out by lifesavers equipped with a rescue tube, a surfboard and a jetski.
Consequently, a water sports boat carrying eight girls and one boy overturned in the waters at Candolim. Lifesaver Sonu Kumar was able to rescue 8 of the victims.
However, a 23-year-old girl from Kerala was found a while later under a boat with no breath or pulse. Immediate CPR was administered to her, after which she was revived and admitted to Candolim health centre. Due to excess fluid in her lungs, she was then shifted to GMC.
At Kerim, another single rescue operation took place wherein a 36-year-old male from Hyderabad was saved by lifesaver Nagesh Sarang.
In another lost and found case, a 3-year-old at Baga was reported missing by her cousin. The latter was found soon after an announcement from the Jeep and was handed over to her sister upon confirmation.
A double rescue mission carried out by Dil khush Kharade and Sudeep Arundekar saved the lives of two Maharashtrian males aged 43. The incident took place at Baga and was conducted using a rescue tube and board.
At nearby Calangute, a medical emergency surfaced wherein a waiter from a shack at the beach reported an injured visitor. The lifesavers rushed to the spot and found no pulse or breath in the victim. Upon being admitted to Candolim Health centre, he was declared dead due to a significant amount of internal bleeding in the ear.
Another rescue operation was carried out in Morjim wherein a girl from Mapusa, aged 14, was rescued by Drishti lifesavers with the help of a rescue tube and jet ski. Since the victim was experiencing difficulty breathing, she was administered oxygen which aided in her recovery.
Baga beach witnessed another rescue wherein two young males from Karnataka were rescued using a Rescue tube and a jetski. Nearby, a 27-year-old male from Bihar was rescued at Vagator by Sandeep Parab using a rescue tube.
In South Goa, first aid was given to a female from Gujrat after she injured her leg while roaming around a rocky area in Palolem.
In a lost and found case, a 4-year-old went missing at Colva and was reported so by his father at the tower. In a matter of minutes, he was found after a thorough search. He was then handed over to his father in the presence of the police.
