CANACONA: A long-pending and much-awaited 300 cubic metre Ground Level Reservoir (GLR) along with a 10-kilometre conveying pipeline was inaugurated at Poinguinim on Monday, bringing major relief to residents facing persistent water supply issues in the area.
The water supply project, constructed at Potkem-Welwada at a cost of over ₹1.5 crore, includes a 300 cubic metre ground level reservoir and a 10 km pipeline network comprising 90 mm and 110 mm diameter pipes. With the commissioning of the reservoir and the new pipeline network, regular and improved water supply has now been ensured for the local wards.
The project is expected to resolve the water scarcity issues faced by residents of Welwada, Potkem, Chiplem, Khawat, Galiem, Goindal, Kudal and surrounding areas under V.P. Poinguinim, significantly improving convenience and quality of life for the people.
The reservoir and conveying pipeline were inaugurated by Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Art & Culture and Tribal Welfare and Canacona MLA, Ramesh Tawadkar, in the presence of Sarpanch of V.P. Poinguinim Smt. Savita Ramesh Tawadkar, Fr. Freddy of Chiplem Church, Fr. Joseph, and Poinguinim Communidade Attorney Damodar Shenvi.
Also present on the occasion were Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, Sports Authority of Goa Treasurer Vinay Tubki, Dy. Sarpanch Sunil Painginkar, Panch members Satish Poinguinkar, Mahesh Naik, Shilpa, Rasika and Pravir Bhandari, along with several local residents who welcomed the commissioning of the much-needed infrastructure project.
