PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the cashew sector in Goa provides livelihood to around 30,000 families, noting that Goan cashew is largely organic and holds significant economic value for the state.
He also announced that a dedicated Cashew Board will soon be established in coordination with the Agriculture Department and the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC) to strengthen the industry and support stakeholders.
Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade highlighted that Goan cashews possess a distinct taste compared to produce from other states and stressed the need to preserve this uniqueness while promoting the state’s traditional produce.
GFDC Chairperson Divya Rane said the Goa Cashew Fest, launched in 2023, has played an important role in promoting cashew and feni while supporting farmers, distillers and processors.
She noted that with the GI tag and government backing, feni has expanded from local markets to fine dining spaces.
She added that strict action against adulteration has improved quality standards, and the festival continues to celebrate Goa’s heritage while strengthening livelihoods linked to the cashew sector.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Goa Cashew Fest 2026 at D.B. Ground, Campal, describing it as a premier celebration of the state’s rich agricultural legacy and a boost to local livelihoods.
The three-day festival is being held from April 10 to 12.
“Goa Cashew Fest 2026 is a premier celebration of our state’s rich agricultural legacy,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the event provides a vital platform for farmers, distillers and entrepreneurs to showcase the tradition and innovation driving Goa’s cashew industry.
He invited the public to experience the finest local produce, explore sustainable entrepreneurship and witness the vibrant community spirit associated with the sector.
“Join us in honouring our heritage and supporting the local livelihoods that represent the true identity of Goa,” Dr Sawant said.
