PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the physical progress of Mopa International Airport achieved up to August 31 2021 is 37.35%.
“The physical progress of Mopa International Airport achieved up to August 31, 2021, is 37.35%, and the first phase of the facility is likely to be commissioned by August 2022,” said CM Sawant.
He further said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the Mopa International Airport on August 15, 2022.
“The project’s total cost has risen to Rs 2,615 crore due to court cases and the Covid-19 pandemic. The Union government has notified a 6.5 km motorway to link Mopa airport to the NH66, and that the tender has already been issued. The state government will soon lay the foundation stone for the road,” he said. .
Through its subsidiary GGIAL, GMR Airports Ltd is building the greenfield airport on the Mopa plateau in Pernem taluka. The first phase of the airport should be ready by March 2022.
In accordance with the concession contract, GGIAL will have the right to operate the business for 40 years, renewable for 20 years. The airport project will be carried out in four phases. Construction of the second phase will not begin until 80% of the passenger traffic has been handled.
