CANACONA: It is not beneficial in any way to Canaconcars, and instead throws-up innumerable inconveniences onto the people of Canacona, stated former Minister/Ex-Dy. Speaker/Ex-Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes reacting to the government’s declaration of notification of Third District (Kushawati) with Canacona as one of the four Talukas.
Isidore refused to accept the explanations given by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and defended by the BJP party that the new third district (Kushawati) will in any way benefit or ease the administration’s benefits for the people of Canacona. ‘There is not proper planning made for the third district at-all,,, lest the inclusion of Canacona is a necessity at-all, if the government is really serious to facilitate better and closer administration for the people’.
AAP General Secretary (Campaign) Sandesh Telekar stating the formation of third district is an acceptable decision, inclusion of Canacona taluka is geographically incorrect. ‘infact divisions of three districts –Central, North and South could have been done in a nicer way…. This government is talking about ‘Sarkar tumchya Dhari’, but with the formation of Kushawati(3rd District) government is taking administration away from people’s reach.’
’How government can make decisions without taking people’s confidence is another question. This is the double standard of the BJP government . Neither people from Canacona nor from Dhabandora were taken into confidence nor will be benefited.. People of Canacona are opposing and people’s voices should be heard ‘.
‘CMs statement that people can reach Quepem within ½ an hour is unpractical. I invite CM for a drive with me and get his statement verified.. it is next to impossible to reach Quepem in ½ an hour. CM also said a 4 lane road will be built between Canacona to Quepem. Everyone including CM knows no roads can be built overnight or even in a year or two, but third districts administration will start immediately. We want administration to be easier and reachable to the people , but then it has to be done properly by taking people into confidence’, Telekar.
‘Arbitrary inclusion of Canacona taluka into the newly formed third(Kushawati) district is shocking for the people. Cannot be justified in no way.’GFP leader Prashant Pagi said reminding people they have obligations to show the discernment by passing resolutions in respective gramsabha.
‘When it all started 8 months ago, a resolution was taken in Loliem-Polem (3rd Aug ’25) gramshabha to oppose inclusion of Canacona into the then proposed formation of the third district. Present BJP ZP(Poinguinim) Ajay Lolienkar who was a panch in Loliem-Polem VP was also party to the then resolution… Let Ajay clarify his position now or take resolution in Gram Sabha in favour of inclusion of Canacona in Kushawati District.’
‘People who are already burdened will be highly inconvenienced . I appeal to these people ask questions to the MLA, Sarpanch’s and even Panch members propagating the BJP’s ideology whether whatever is done (to form 3rd district) by the government is correct or no, and accordingly pass resolutions in gram sabhas.
