CANACONA: Canacona is set to host its first-ever 4-day Konkani Film Festival at Ravindra Bhavan from December 7 to 11, an initiative led entirely by local organisations without any government funding. The festival is being organised by Kala Chetana, Volvoi in association with Ranga Sangati, Canacona, with the aim of promoting Konkani cinema, nurturing local talent, and creating a cultural space for film lovers in the taluka.
Addressing the media, actor Rajdeep Naik, producer-writer Suchita Narvekar of Questao De Confusao, Ranga Sangati President Rajendra Gosavi, and Organising Chairman Umesh Tubki announced that the festival will showcase a mix of hit films and award-winning shorts. Screenings will begin at 7.30 pm daily.
The lineup includes Home Sweet Home (Dec 7), Home Sweet Home 2 (Dec 8), Questao De Confusao (Dec 9), Mortoo—shot in Khotigao village (Dec 10), and on the final day, four short films: Asecao (Toronto Film Festival award winner), Cucu, Salt, and Sadabahar, which highlights young Canacona talent.
Naik emphasised that while Goa has produced remarkable films, rural audiences often miss out due to lack of theatres. “Producing the best films is not enough; they must reach the villages. With Ravindra Bhavan now in Canacona, we are beginning this journey here and intend to take it across the State,” he said.
Daily tickets are priced at ₹100, while a five-day transferable festival pass is also available, offering reserved middle-row seating and a dedicated pass card. The organisers have also announced awards for the best film reviews posted on social media, along with a lucky draw winner on the final day.
Tickets and passes can be booked online at www.kalachetanavolvoi.com, and further details are available at 9923415622.
The organisers have invited the public to support Konkani cinema and be part of five evenings of storytelling, entertainment, and cultural pride in Canacona.
