MAPUSA: In a shocking incident, 4 shops in the Municipal area were looted by thieves in the wee hours on Monday.
As per the information, the thieves used cutters to open the locks of all four shops. Shop owners said that they had properly locked their premises on Saturday.
The incident came to light when the shop owner as usual went to open the shop in the morning; he found the shutter of the shop broken.
“The thieves decamped with cash. No other articles have been stolen. The robbery must have happened in the wee hours on Monday,” said a shop owner
The shop owners said that received a phone call in the morning that their shops had been looted and a police complaint has been filed.
Police suspect that these are the same people who had targeted and broke open three other shops last week in the municipal market.
“There is no patrolling in this area despite housing high-level government offices,” the owners said
They stated that three such thefts had taken place within a short period. Merchants within the market have faced significant financial losses due to these criminal activities perpetrated by individuals believed to be masquerading as vendors from outside the area.
Additionally, the Association emphasized the need for augmented police patrols, particularly on Fridays, a day on which numerous incidents of pickpocketing and chain snatching happen.
