MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) today has enforced the demolition of four unauthorized shops near Karaswada Junction along NH-66.
The structure was deemed illegal as it lacked necessary permissions. Shop owners vacated their premises as officials proceeded with the demolition.MMC officials were present during the inspection process.
The inspection revealed that nearly all the establishments were operating without the necessary health No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and in unhygienic conditions.
The unauthorised shops and kiosks, primarily situated on tenanted land belonging to the Mapusa Comunidade, lacked approvals not only from the MMC but also from crucial government departments such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), health, fire, and electricity authorities.
Despite their illegal status, these establishments continued their operations unabated, causing significant inconvenience to nearby residents and motorists.
The junction has recently been know for daily traffic jams, especially during peak hours, due to the heavy movement of vehicles.
