New Delhi: India received 40 inbound flights from West Asia carrying 7,205 passengers on March 5 as authorities closely tracked the impact of the ongoing regional conflict on air travel. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said it is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating with airlines to manage passenger movement and maintain safe flight operations.
According to official data, these flights were operated by Indian carriers and brought travellers from various destinations across West Asia. With these arrivals, the total number of passengers reaching India from the region in recent days has climbed to 14,992.
Airlines have been adjusting their operations in response to the evolving security situation to ensure passenger safety and maintain orderly flight schedules. Officials said that such operational changes are being made based on prevailing conditions in the region.
For March 6, Indian carriers have scheduled 51 flights from West Asia to India. However, the ministry noted that these services will depend on operational feasibility and the security environment in the region at the time of departure.
Authorities are also keeping a close watch on ticket prices to prevent any sharp increase in fares during this period of uncertainty. The government said it remains in regular contact with airlines and other aviation stakeholders to ensure smooth travel arrangements for passengers.
Travellers have been advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest information about flight schedules and possible changes. Officials said further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
Earlier, the ministry confirmed that 281 flights scheduled to operate on Thursday by Indian domestic carriers were cancelled as a precaution due to the evolving circumstances in West Asia. The cancellations were part of efforts to manage operational challenges and ensure safety.
To assist passengers, a dedicated Passenger Assistance Control Room is operating round the clock to provide support and address concerns. During this period, 1,461 passenger grievances were resolved through the AirSewa portal, social media platforms and helpline calls in coordination with airlines and relevant authorities.
The situation has intensified following a major military escalation in West Asia after joint strikes and retaliatory attacks across the region, leading to widespread security concerns and disruptions to normal travel operations.
