MARGAO: A 41-year-old resident of Gogol Housing Board, Margao, was found dead by suicide in the early hours of Friday. The deceased, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Bhavikatti, was brought to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) casualty ward, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the incident came to light after a phone call from SGDH informed Fatorda Police of the case. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had hanged himself using a dupatta as a ligature on the terrace of his apartment. According to police sources, the man was reportedly under mental stress and suffering from health-related issues, which may have contributed to the act.
A scene of unnatural death (UD) occurrence panchanama and inquest panchanama were conducted, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination at SGDH. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of hanging.”
The body was later handed over to the family for final rites. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Ramrai Naik of Fatorda Police Station.
