Valpoi: A 42-year-old man from Hivrem Khurd, Sattari, allegedly committed suicide at his residence on Wednesday evening.
Police said that at around 6:26 pm on September 24, a call was received from PCR Porvorim reporting the incident. On verification, it was found that the deceased, identified as Sandeep Zarmekar, son of Satu Zarmekar, had hanged himself from the ceiling rafter of his house using a nylon rope. His family members had already lowered the body to the floor before police arrived.
The forensic team and two panch witnesses were called to the site, where the scene of unnatural death and inquest panchanama were conducted.
Family members told police that the deceased was suffering from diabetes and had recently sustained a leg injury. They suspected that stress and depression over his illness may have driven him to take the extreme step. Police have ruled out any foul play in the death.
The body was sent to GMC Bambolim for medico-legal formalities. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Khushali Naik of Valpoi Police Station.
