Margao: A 47-year-old man was found dead in his flat at Mandopa, Navelim, late Sunday night, police said.
According to police, information was received around 11 pm on December 28 from a woman who reported that her husband was found motionless in their flat at Mandopa, Navelim. The deceased was identified as Dinesh Velip (47), a resident of Mandopa, Navelim.
During preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that Velip was found lying on his bed and unresponsive. He was immediately shifted to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
Further enquiry with family members disclosed that the deceased was residing alone in the flat and was a chronic alcoholic. As he was not responding to phone calls, family members visited the flat, found it locked, and upon opening it, discovered him lying motionless on the bed.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and the body was sent for post-mortem examination. The autopsy conducted by the police surgeon certified the cause of death as acute myocardial infarction consequent to occlusive coronary artery disease, in a person suffering from acute on chronic pancreatitis and fatty liver disease.
After completion of formalities, the body was handed over to the family for final religious rites. The enquiry was conducted by PSI Subhash Gaonkar of Margao Town Police Station.
