Pissurle: In a shocking case highlighting the dangers of plastic waste, veterinarians rescued a 12-year-old cow suffering from severe complications caused by plastic ingestion at Pissurle on December 22, 2025.
The cow was rescued following a case of premature birth and was found to be recumbent, continuously straining and unable to pass normal urine.
Suspecting plastic impaction, the veterinary team immediately conducted an emergency ruminotomy.
During the surgical procedure, a massive 48.3 kilograms of plastic waste was removed from the cow’s stomach.
The recovered material included plastic carry bags, PVC pipe pieces, a leather belt, rainwear, cloth fragments, nylon rope and construction metal wire.
Veterinarians stated that the ingestion of plastic waste had caused severe distress and life-threatening complications for the animal.
The case once again underscores the grave impact of indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste on stray and grazing cattle.
The cow is currently under veterinary care, and further treatment is ongoing.
