VASCO: The Taekwondo Academy of Vasco, with the approval and support of the Taekwondo Federation of India and in association with the Taekwondo Association of Goa, is set to host the 4th India Open National Taekwondo Championship at the Peddem Sports Complex, Karaswada, Mapusa, Goa. The championship will be held from December 13 to 15, 2024.
In a Historic First, the event will be Live Telecast on DD Sports
Adv. R. D. Mangueshkar, Secretary General of the Taekwondo Federation of India, announced that for the first time in India, the Taekwondo Championship will be broadcast live on DD Sports by Prasar Bharati. “This initiative, led by Shri Mahadev Chavan, aims to bring taekwondo into the limelight and promote it across every corner of the country,” he said.
Deepak D. Naik, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the importance of providing a high-level platform for budding athletes. “The Taekwondo Academy of Vasco is deeply grateful to Govind Gaude, Sports Minister, Government of Goa, and Dr. Geeta Suresh Nagvenkar, Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, for their unwavering support in organizing this prestigious event,” Naik stated.
The competition will feature two categories: Kyorugi (Fighting) and Poomsae (Presentation). Athletes from across the country will compete in age divisions, including Mini Sub-Junior (under 8 years), Sub-Junior (under 12 years), Cadet (under 14 years), Junior (under 17 years), and Senior (17 years and above) for both male and female divisions. Players will vie for 450 medals, showcasing their skills and determination.
Organizing Secretary Mahadev Chavan highlighted the championship’s scale, with participants and officials from across India. “Around 65 Technical Officials from states such as Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and more, including Goa, will ensure fair play during the event,” Chavan said.
He added that this championship will not only foster competitive spirit among players but also lay the foundation for the growth of sports across India.
Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, has consented to be the Chief Guest for the event’s inauguration, alongside Govind Gaude, Sports Minister, and other dignitaries from the Sports Authority of Goa.
With meticulous planning by the Taekwondo Academy of Vasco, Chairman Deepak D. Naik and Organizing Secretary Mahadev Chavan assured that all arrangements are in line to ensure the success of this mega event. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their cooperation and faith in us to organize this championship on such a grand scale,” they stated.
