PANAJI: Five people were taken into custody by the Goa Police’s Crime Branch for selling fake diplomas to applicants for government jobs.
The defendants are Yuraj Gawade, 31, from Bicholim; Vishnudas Bhomkar, 42, from Carambolim; Yeshwant Kholkar, 37, from Taleigao; Bindi Parab, 34, from Cumbarjua; and Bhavesh Haldankar, 33, from Chorao.
The police claim that 15 to 20 certificates were issued by Bindi Parab. She acknowledged that Violet Khandepal of Grace Education, Patto, Panaji, had Bhavesh Haldankar as an agent. Vishnudas Bhomkar would obtain phony certificates for NIOS (The National Institute of Open Schooling), while Niraj Gawade would obtain phony certifications from Parab for IGNOU (The Indira Gandhi National Open University).
A fake 10th or 12th standard certificate would fetch between Rs 25,000 and Rs 35,000, while the going rate for a graduation certificate was between Rs 55,000 and Rs 1,35,000.
Bindi Parab admitted to issuing certificates for a variety of institutions during the investigation, with payments varying depending on the category of certificate.
After receiving the tip, we looked into it. We filed a formal complaint and took the guy into custody after realizing what was actually occurring.
A violation of BNS 2023 section 336(3) read with 3(5)(6) has been reported, and PI Dattaram Raut is looking into the matter.
